Guest Speaker: Graham Bennett from Bennett Kaye. He will address the meeting on the things that the Officers of clubs must check regularly, and update their records on regarding fire and electrical safety, and other HSAW safety issues. Clubs no longer receive regular visits from inspecting officers to make sure they comply with the law, but they must still comply with the regulations in force and be able to prove that they are taking tnese necessary steps. Otherwise, insurances may be invalidated, and the clubs may be subject to substantial penalties if an incident occurs and the club cannot show that it has taken all the steps necessary to comply with the law. This includes regular re-certification of electrical wiring, checks of electrical equipment, treatment of areas and surfaces with fire retardants, maintenance of alarms (including cellar gas safety), fire-fighting equipment, procedures for safe evacuation of people in case of fire, risk assessments for working practices, use of hazardous substances, and so on.
